Guangzhou Airport Hotels for Transit and Layovers
Last checked October 20, 2026 against official sources. How we check
Quick answer
We found no hotel inside Baiyun Airport's transit zone. The airport hotels, such as Yunxiang in Terminal 3 and the Pullman by Terminal 2, appear to be outside immigration, so staying means entering China. China Southern lists a free night for some connections of 8 to 48 hours. Confirm the current rules with the airline.
Key facts
| Airside hotel | None found in airport or airline pages |
|---|---|
| To reach any hotel | Enter China: 30-day visa-free, 240-hour transit, a visa, or the 24-hour temporary entry permit |
| China Southern free night | Connection of 8 to 48 hours, eligible fares only, one night with breakfast and transfer (airline page) |
| Terminals | T2 and T3 only; T1 closed May 7, 2026 |
| Yunxiang Hotel, T3 | From about US$30 a night on Trip.com's listing, 24-hour front desk (listing checked October 20, 2026; rates vary by date) |

Is there a hotel inside Guangzhou Baiyun Airport?
There are hotels at Baiyun, but none we could find in the restricted transit area. The airport’s terminal guide, China Southern’s transit-accommodation page and the hotel listings we read all describe hotels on the public side of the airport. The Yunxiang Hotel’s listing does not say airside or landside, so that point is our reading, not an official statement.
Why it matters: a hotel on the public side means you pass immigration to reach it. Passing immigration is entering China, with the paperwork that implies. A traveller on r/guangzhou wrote on January 26, 2026 that the airline offered a free hotel but their girlfriend was too afraid to leave the airport. That is the situation this guide is about.
Only Terminals 2 and 3 handle passengers now. Terminal 1 closed on May 7, 2026. Read the Baiyun terminals guide before you plan a connection.
What do you need to enter China for a hotel night?
You need one of these. Which one depends on your passport and ticket.
- 30-day visa-free entry, if your passport is on the list. Check the visa-free guide.
- 240-hour visa-free transit, with a confirmed onward ticket to a third country or region. Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan count as onward destinations. See the 240-hour transit guide.
- A visa, if neither applies.
- A 24-hour temporary entry permit, for a through ticket with onward travel to a third country or region within 24 hours. The NIA’s interpretation says you apply at the border inspection station before leaving the port. You submit your passport and your interline ticket and fill in a landing card for foreigners in transit. It will not issue the permit in some cases, such as a passport valid for less than 3 months. China Southern’s transit page says the permit is typically granted to nationals of countries eligible for visa-free transit.
China Southern’s page says international passengers must hold a valid stay permit for the free hotel. Use the visa-free checker before you book, and see the arrival card guide for the form. Our layover guide covers how many hours you need.
What are your hotel options at the airport?
| Option | Where | What the source says |
|---|---|---|
| Yunxiang Hotel | Inside Gate 76, first floor, Terminal 3 | Opened 2026 per Trip.com; front desk open 24 hours; check-in from 12:00; from about US$30, rates vary by date (listing checked October 20, 2026). Reviews on the listing mention a short walk from the arrival lobby and a lift to the departure level |
| Pullman Guangzhou Baiyun Airport | No. 2 Yiheng Road, Airport Avenue, Huadu | Accor: about 3 minutes by shuttle from Terminal 2 Gate 46, “complimentary shuttle every 30 minutes”; a direct shuttle to Terminal 3 Gate 66 (time, frequency and price not stated); check-in from 14:00, check-out until 12:00 |
| China Southern transit hotel | Hotel not named on the booking page; its menu links to an old Pullman page that now returns an error | One free night for eligible connecting passengers (below) |
Check-in times matter on a layover. Pullman’s 14:00 standard check-in is later than many arrivals, so ask the hotel about early check-in when you book. Neither listing gave a day-use or hourly rate, so do not count on one.
The hotel will register you with the police when you check in, as it does for any foreign guest. Our check-in guide explains what to bring and how deposits work.
How does China Southern’s free transit hotel work?
According to China Southern’s page:
- Who: passengers connecting at Guangzhou on China Southern flights, including codeshares, with a connection of no less than 8 hours and no more than 48 hours.
- Which fares: a non-intercontinental ticket needs an international segment in cabin F, J, C, D, I or O. An intercontinental ticket (Asia to Europe, Oceania, America or Africa) qualifies in a longer list of classes that includes economy. Hotel grade A to D depends on cabin or Sky Pearl card status.
- What you get: one night including breakfast, with a free transfer between the terminal and the hotel. Extras are at your cost.
- Not eligible: staff and official tickets, and passengers who miss flights in the ticketed order or abandon travel. Mileage tickets follow the normal rules.
Booking steps from the same page:
- On the airline’s website go to Home, Online Services, Transit Accommodation. Rooms are held until three hours after your flight arrives.
- If you did not book, go to the transit-accommodation counter after landing. Grade A rooms are limited.
- Check in at the transfer counter at Gate 50, Level 1, Terminal 2. Staff confirm the stay and arrange the free pickup.
- Our advice, not the airline’s: make sure you can enter China before you leave the airside area.
The page applies to tickets issued from January 26, 2020 and still links a “144-hour” transit guide, which predates the current 240-hour rule, so it looks out of date. Read it as a pointer, and ask the airline for the current rules.
How should you time a hotel night?
Work backwards from your next flight, as in the layover guide. Baiyun Airport advises arriving three hours before an international departure, and you will have to clear immigration, collect bags and check in again unless the airline says your bags stay checked through. Ask at check-in rather than relying on forum answers.
Then add the hotel leg: the transfer or shuttle out, the night, check-out and the way back. A 12:00 check-out on a late-evening flight leaves a gap, so ask the hotel whether it can store your bags. We found no published luggage-storage rule for these hotels.
Should you stay airside instead?
If your connection is under about 8 hours, or you cannot or do not want to enter China, stay in the terminal. Baiyun Airport also lists a free transit tour for international transit passengers with foreign passports; it leaves the airport, so the same entry rules apply.
If you are moving between terminals, a 24-hour shuttle bus for connecting passengers links T2 and T3 in about 25 minutes, according to the Guangzhou government’s May 2026 notice. For the ride into town instead of a hotel by the airport, see Baiyun Airport to the city.
What we could not confirm
We could not verify any airside hotel, whether the Yunxiang Hotel is inside the restricted area, China Southern’s current eligibility rules, the Pullman’s Terminal 3 shuttle schedule, or Chinese names and addresses from an official map. Hotel pages change; confirm pick-up points with the hotel before you fly.
Traps and how to avoid them
- Looking for a hotel past immigration
We found no hotel in the restricted transit area at Baiyun. The hotels we found are on the public side, so the moment you pass immigration you have entered China.
- Booking the free hotel without an entry plan
China Southern's page says international passengers must hold a valid stay permit. Decide first whether you qualify for visa-free entry, 240-hour transit or the temporary entry permit.
- Relying on an old terminal guide
Terminal 1 closed to passengers on May 7, 2026. The airline counter for the free hotel is in Terminal 2, and a 24-hour shuttle for connecting passengers links T2 and T3 in about 25 minutes.
- Trusting a hotel's gate number on a booking site
Gate numbers and shuttle times on listings come from the hotel or the platform and change. Message the hotel for the current pick-up point and last shuttle.
FAQ
Is there a hotel inside Guangzhou airport?
Yes: the Yunxiang Hotel is listed inside Terminal 3, at Gate 76 on the first floor. Its listing does not say airside or landside, but its first-floor position near the arrival lobby points to the public side, so expect to enter China to use it.
Is there an airside hotel at Guangzhou Baiyun?
We found none in the airport's pages, the airline's pages or hotel listings. If you need to stay airside, stay in the terminal and ask your airline about lounge access.
Does China Southern offer a free transit hotel?
Its Guangzhou page offers one free night with breakfast and a transfer to eligible passengers connecting on its flights, between 8 and 48 hours apart. Fare class and passport rules apply, and the page's rules look dated, so confirm them with the airline.
How do I book the China Southern transit hotel?
The airline's page says to book at Home, Online Services, Transit Accommodation on its website. Without a booking, ask at the transfer counter at Gate 50, Level 1, Terminal 2 after you land.
My partner is afraid to leave the airport. Can we still use the free hotel?
No. The hotel is outside the transit zone, so you must pass immigration and enter China. If that worries you, stay airside; a traveller on r/guangzhou described exactly this dilemma in January 2026.

Update history
- : First version. China Southern's page is undated apart from a January 26, 2020 ticket date, so its rules are flagged as needing a check
