What is Baiyun Mountain and who is it for?

Baiyun Mountain (白云山, Báiyún Shān, “White Cloud Mountain”) is the green hill north of central Guangzhou. The scenic area’s own introduction, dated September 30, 2026, gives a total area of 21.8 square kilometres and says it is a national 5A scenic area made up of eight visiting zones. It reports more than 20 million visits a year. The highest peak, Moxing Ridge (摩星岭), is 382 m.

It suits a half-day of walking with a view over the city, a cable car ride, or a quiet garden. It is not a single park with one gate. Each zone has its own entrance and some have their own fee, so the first job is to pick a zone. The gate cards on this page, and the Show your driver tool, give the Chinese names for a taxi.

Luhu Park 麓湖公园A lake park at the southern endBuses 63 and 245 to the 麓湖 stop

The scenic area’s transport page lists these. It names no exit letter for Yuntai Garden station, so follow the signs for Baiyun Mountain. Many city bus numbers serve the South Gate area: the page lists 46, 60, 127, 175, 179, 199, 223, 241, 257, 540, B18 and Tourist Line 1 to the 白云索道 (Baiyun Cable Car) stop, and 24, 63, 240 and 285 to the Yuntai Garden stop. A January 2025 local guide says bus 46 or 257 from Yantang station also reaches the cable car stop. See the metro guide for paying at the gate, or the Didi guide if you would rather ride in a car.

What are the gate opening hours?

A local guide updated July 2, 2026 gives these gate hours; check them before a late visit.

    GatesHours
    South Gate, West Gate24 hours
    Plum Garden gate (梅花园)07:00–24:00
    North Gate07:00–22:00

    Cuizhuyuan, Heshulin, Woshancun, Wuxianqiao07:00–18:00
    Wulonggu, Yuantiantian, Lengdongchang, Yongtai08:00–17:00

The scenic area’s own site does not publish a standing list, so this is a secondary source. A Southern Metropolis Daily report of the scenic area’s Double Ninth arrangements in October 2026 gives slightly different hours for some small gates, which confirms that hours move with the season. If bad weather brings a warning, an older local guide says the scenic area may close temporarily; call the hotline 020-37222222 if in doubt.

    How much does it cost?

The scenic area’s ticket page (checked October 21, 2026) lists:

    ItemPrice
    Baiyun Mountain, single entry¥5
    Monthly pass¥20 (concession ¥6)
    Half-year pass¥100 (concession ¥35)
    Annual pass¥200 (concession ¥70)
    Moxing Ridge zone¥5
    Taohua Jian (桃花涧)¥5
    Yuntai Garden (云台花园)¥10
    Yunxi Botanical Garden (云溪植物园)¥20
    Yunluo Botanical Garden (云萝植物园)¥20

The Yunxi and Yunluo prices come from a July 23, 2026 notice: the city set a ceiling of ¥40 from July 24, 2026, and the scenic area said it would keep ¥20 for now and announce any change in advance. A local guide dated July 2, 2026 also lists Mingchun Valley (鸣春谷) at ¥10, the Stele Forest (碑林) at ¥5 and vehicles at ¥15. The official page does not list the first two now, so check at the gate.

Who gets in free or at half price?

The official discount policy lists free entry for children under 6 or under 1.3 m tall, adults over 65 and some other groups with valid ID. It lists half price for full-time students up to undergraduate level, ages 6 to 18 and ages 60 to 64. It does not say whether foreign passports qualify. Ask at the ticket window.

    Do you need to book?

A local guide updated July 2, 2026 says no booking is needed. You can buy online through the scenic area’s WeChat official account and scan the order code at the gate. Southern Metropolis Daily’s report of the October 2026 holiday arrangements says staffed offline tickets stay available if online purchase fails. See the payments guide for how foreign cards link to WeChat Pay and Alipay.

How does the cable car work?

The Baiyun cable car (白云索道) is one line. The scenic area lists these fares, checked October 21, 2026:

    DirectionFull ticketHalf ticket
    Up¥25¥13
    Down¥20¥10

Southern Metropolis Daily reported temporarily higher fares on October 17 to 19, 2026 (¥30 up and ¥25 down for a full ticket) for the Double Ninth holiday, with the cable car running past midnight. That was a holiday arrangement; the figures above are the standing ones.

The scenic area’s pages give no normal opening hours. A local guide gives 09:00–18:00 all year (unconfirmed) and says the actual state of service depends on the day, so check before you go. The same guide lists past suspensions for maintenance. Call 020-37222222 for the day’s status.

What do the shuttle buses cost?

The scenic area runs four tour-bus lines inside the hill (游览观光车). The official page lists these fares and distances:

    LineRouteFare
A 云山A线South Gate, 1.7 km, Nengren Temple, 1.5 km, Yellow River Stone Plaza (黄河石广场)¥20
B 云山B线Mingzhu Tower, 2.5 km, Dangxiong Pavilion (荡胸亭), 3 km, Yellow River Stone Plaza¥20
    C 云山C线West Gate, 3 km, Mingzhu Tower¥10
D 云山D线Yellow River Stone Plaza, 2 km, Moxing Ridge¥10

All lines run from 07:30 to 20:00, every 15 to 20 minutes (every 20 to 30 minutes on line B). After 20:00 they run hourly, and overnight service is by booking; the end time of the hourly service is 23:00 from June to October and 22:00 from November to May. Check the schedule on the day: the reported Double Ninth arrangements said the buses can change with crowd size.

What are the main walking routes?

The scenic area publishes three routes. The distances are official; the times are editorial estimates at an easy pace, not official figures.

    RouteOfficial lengthEstimated time
Lianquan Gate (濂泉门) to Keqi lawn (可憩大草坪), by the Hundred Steps (百步梯)1.16 kmAbout 45 to 60 minutes, mostly uphill
Kezi Ling Gate (柯子岭门) to summit plaza (山顶广场), on the climbing path3.45 kmAbout 1.5 to 2 hours
Luhu Park to the West Gate, through Yuntai, Mingchun Valley, Moxing Ridge and Mingzhu Tower23.4 kmA full day on foot; the official text says you can ride the shuttle for parts

Most visitors do not need the long route. A half-day option built from the official pieces: ride the cable car or walk up from the South Gate, visit the summit plaza and Mingchun Valley, then take shuttle line A or D to Moxing Ridge. The Moxing Ridge zone, the highest point at 382 m, has its own ¥5 ticket. Line D passes the Stele Forest and the Baozhanglou tea house (宝章楼茶座).

What about the botanical gardens and Yuntai Garden?

The official introduction describes Yuntai Garden as 12 hectares, set against the hill and known for a tulip show each Spring Festival. The Yunluo Botanical Garden is next to it and has a canopy-level boardwalk called the Mumian Dao (木棉道). The Yunxi Botanical Garden lies on the west side of the mountain. Each of those two gardens has its own ¥20 ticket. A local guide for the 2026 Mid-Autumn holiday mentions a sunflower show at Yuntai Garden; flower shows change each year, so check the scenic area’s WeChat account.

    What is the zipline?

The Baiyun zipline (白云飞索) is a paid extra, not part of the entry ticket. It starts near Dangxiong Pavilion (荡胸亭) on the shuttle line B route, where the scenic area’s transport page marks a zipline ticket office. All other figures here come from local guides dated January 7, 2025, so they may be out of date:

    • Total length 1,489.8 m over six separate lines, ending near the Huangpodong reservoir.
    • Opening hours 10:00–18:00.
    • Weekday prices ¥138 for one person (list price ¥288) and ¥198 for two. A weekend price was not confirmed.
    • Eligibility: age, height and weight limits apply, and the guide’s two pages disagree on the minimum height (1.4 m or 1.2 m). Ask at the ticket office.

No current official price page was found, so check the price and hours with the operator before you go.

    When should you go?

    • Time of day. The South and West gates are open 24 hours, but the cable car and shuttles keep set hours. Pick your start to match them.
    • Double Ninth (重阳节). Local people climb the hill around this festival in autumn. In 2026 the scenic area ran special rules on October 17 to 19, as Southern Metropolis Daily reported: entry ¥10, group visits paused and private vehicles banned. Expect crowds and read the notice for the year you visit. See the season guide for weather by month.
    • Weather. The official visitor tips say the weather on the hill changes, and ask visitors to follow forecasts. They also ban smoking and open fires in the forest zones.

Where can you eat and drink?

No current official list of restaurants, shops or prices was found. The official tour pages name the Baozhanglou tea house near the Stele Forest and the Shanzhuang guesthouse (山庄旅舍) on shuttle line B, with no hours or menu given. Plan your own food and water for a full hill day, and keep any receipts for souvenirs, as the official tips advise.

    Do you have a car?

A local guide dated July 2, 2026 lists vehicles at ¥15 a car. A January 2025 guide gives West Gate parking at ¥1.5 an hour or ¥4.5 for 12 hours, South Gate parking at ¥2 an hour, and about 500 spaces at the West Gate. Private vehicles were banned from the hill on October 17 to 19, 2026. If you take a taxi, show the driver the gate name from the cards on this page. See the taxi guide for how to pay.

What can you pair it with?

Baiyun Mountain is a poor fit for a short first day. After a half-day here, Line 11 or a bus gets you back towards the centre. For a gentler city park, see Yuexiu Park. For more ideas see the things to do in Guangzhou hub. 3 days in Guangzhou pairs it with the Guangdong Museum as one choice for day 3.

Traps and how to avoid them

    • Paying for the wrong thing at the gate

The ¥5 ticket covers entry only. Moxing Ridge, Yuntai Garden, the botanical gardens, the cable car, shuttle buses and the zipline are separate. Decide what you want before you queue.

    • Planning around the Double Ninth weekend without checking

Southern Metropolis Daily reported that for October 17 to 19, 2026 the scenic area set ¥10 entry, higher cable car fares, 24-hour gates and a ban on private vehicles. Holiday rules can change each year; check the scenic area's official WeChat account.

    • Trusting old fare lists

Many pages still quote shuttle segment fares or hours from before 2020. The official transport page, updated January 6, 2026, lists four shuttle lines at ¥10 or ¥20 a ride.

    • Choosing a gate that is closed

Gate hours range from 24 hours to 08:00–17:00. Pick the South or West gate for a late start or a late exit, or check the smaller gates first.
