Where to Stay for the Canton Fair: Areas, Prices, Shuttles
Last checked October 19, 2026 against official sources. How we check
Quick answer
Stay in Pazhou or near Xingangdong if you want to walk to the halls, but book early: travellers report rooms near the venue sell out and prices double or triple from the third week of October. Other options are hotels further along Metro Line 8, or airport hotels, which offered free shuttles and discounted rates for the 139th session.
Key facts
| Walk to the halls | Pazhou and Xingangdong, Line 8 (Haizhu District) |
|---|---|
| Price surge | Travellers report 2x to 3x from the third week of October |
| Airport to complex | T2: Line 3 at Airport North, Line 8 from Kecun. T3: no metro; intercity to Pazhou, ¥17 |
| Registration | Hotel must register you with the police; bring your passport |

How the hotel market behaves in fair weeks
Hotels close to the venue fill first and cost the most. Travellers on Reddit wrote in September 2026 that “hotel prices double/triple from the 3rd week of October onwards”, and on October 14, 2026 that “all close hotels are either fully booked or ridiculously priced”. These are traveller reports, not price data. The fair runs three phases, so check the price for your own dates. See Canton Fair Spring 2027 dates.
Practical rules:
- Pick your phase first, then book.
- Choose free cancellation and keep checking for lower rates until a few days before.
- Compare the price of two areas, not two hotels in the same street.
Going to Auto Guangzhou instead? It uses the same complex from November 27 to December 6, 2026, so the areas below work for it too.
Areas compared, by metro line
The complex is on Metro Line 8, with Xingangdong and Pazhou stations on its edge. Which station you use depends on the hall, as the metro guide explains.
| Area | Station or line | Why stay here | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pazhou | Pazhou, Lines 8 and 11 | Shortest walk to Areas B and C | Highest prices in fair weeks, according to traveller reports |
| Xingangdong | Xingangdong, Line 8 | Next to Areas A and D | Same price pressure as Pazhou |
| Along Line 8 | Changgang (Line 2 interchange), Kecun (Line 3 interchange) | Easy links to the railway stations and airport line | A metro ride in, and rush hour crowds on fair mornings |
| Zhujiang New Town (Tianhe) | Across the Pearl River from the complex | Business district; Newsgd’s hotel list names two hotels here, The Ritz-Carlton and W Guangzhou, across the river from the complex | Route to the halls needs a map check, not a short walk |
| Near Baiyun Airport | Airport North (T2), Line 3 North Extension; T3 has no metro station | Free hotel shuttles for the 139th session, according to a Newsgd report of April 9, 2026 | Far from the venue, with two metro changes from Airport North |
The organiser’s 2024 guide started its airport route at Airport South, which closed with Terminal 1 on May 7, 2026. From Terminal 2, Metro Line 3 runs from Airport North station (机场北); follow the rest of that route: Line 3 North Extension to Tiyu Xilu, Line 3 to Kecun, then Line 8 to Xingangdong or Pazhou. Terminal 3 has no metro station. Take the ¥2 Airport Line 2 branch bus to Gaozeng Exit B (Lines 3 and 9), or the Guangzhou East Ring intercity from Baiyun Airport East, which stops at Pazhou: about 29 to 52 minutes and ¥17 second class on 12306 (October 2026). See Baiyun Airport terminals.
Official and hotel shuttle services
- Airport hotels: Newsgd reported ahead of the 139th session that Baiyun Airport’s affiliated hotels would offer free shuttle buses linking the hotels, the terminals and the Canton Fair venue, plus discounted room rates during the fair.
- Designated hotels: The organiser’s badge notice lists designated hotels that hold badge registration offices. The 137th notice listed 69. If you stay in one, you can register and collect your badge there. See registration and badge.
- Organiser’s hotel platform: the organiser’s travel agency runs booking.cantonfair.org.cn. Several of its listings mention free shuttle buses, and some an overseas-buyer badge office.
- Specific hotels: Newsgd’s hotel list for the 138th session says one hotel is a three-minute walk from the complex and another runs a boat service from its private pier on the Pearl River (45 minutes, according to that article). Offers like these change, so ask the hotel directly.
Other options
- Stay further along Line 8. Compare Changgang and Kecun with Pazhou for the same dates.
- Book budget hotels carefully. Read the latest reviews and look for photos taken in the last few months. Confirm that the hotel takes foreign guests.
- Book only the nights you need. If you only need two days of a phase, arrive the day before and leave the night of your last day.
Registration and paperwork
Hotels register foreign guests with the police using your passport. See accommodation registration for foreigners. The Show your driver tool has the venue address in Chinese for taxis.
Before you book
- Check the invitation letter and M visa guide first. A hotel booking does not replace the letter.
- For a general city guide, see Guangzhou Airport to city and Guangzhou metro with foreign cards.
- If you also have meetings elsewhere in the city, see the Guangzhou business trip guide for getting around and paying.
Traps and how to avoid them
- Booking the week before
A traveller wrote on October 14, 2026 that all close hotels were either fully booked or ridiculously priced. Book when the dates are announced and choose free cancellation.
- Choosing the cheapest listing on a booking app
Read recent reviews and confirm the hotel will register foreign guests before you pay.
- Assuming a hotel is walkable because it says 'near Canton Fair'
The complex is very large. Check the walking route to the exit you need on a map app, not just the distance to the main gate.
- Trusting a hotel shuttle without confirming it in writing
Shuttle times and routes change each session. Ask the hotel for the current timetable and the pick-up point when you book.
FAQ
What is the best area to stay for the Canton Fair?
Pazhou and Xingangdong if you want to walk. To compare prices, look at hotels on Metro Line 8 near Changgang or Kecun, which connect with Lines 2 and 3, and ride in.
Do hotel prices really double during the fair?
A traveller on Reddit wrote in September 2026 that prices double or triple from the third week of October. We have no official price data, so check your own dates.
Are there hotel shuttle buses to the fair?
Some hotels run them: several listings on the organiser's hotel platform mention free shuttle buses, and Newsgd reported in April 2026 that airport-affiliated hotels offered free shuttle buses between hotel, terminals and the venue for the 139th session. Confirm with your hotel for your session.
Can I stay in Foshan or Shenzhen and travel in?
It is possible, but the daily journey is long on fair days. You can stay in Guangzhou and keep out-of-town trips for days between phases.
Do I need to register with the police when I stay in a hotel?
Hotels do this for foreign guests, using your passport. See our accommodation registration guide.
