    Quick answer

The Canton Fair is worth it if you know what product category you want and attend the phase that shows it. Travellers suggest two to three days for one phase. Expect to walk very far, and bring your original passport, business cards and QR code. Do your registration and visa work well before you fly.

    Is it worth going?

It depends on how specific your plan is. The fair is big: the Ministry of Commerce said the 140th session had more than 32,000 companies, and Xinhua put the fair at 1.55 million square metres of exhibition space and around 310,000 buyers today. For a buyer with a clear product list, that range is the point. For a buyer without one, it is a lot to take in.

Travellers on Reddit give the same advice. One wrote that two to three days is enough if you know what product you are looking for, and that even five days is not enough if you do not. Another buyer asked in April 2026 whether it was worth the trip because companies they had contacted online were not exhibiting. Exhibitors are split across three phases, so check the official exhibitor list for your phase before booking.

    Choose a phase

The fair has three phases of five days, with different product zones in each. For the 140th session they run October 15–19, October 23–27 and October 31 to November 4, 2026. The spring 2027 phase dates are not announced; see Canton Fair Spring 2027 dates. The organiser’s notice for the 140th session attaches a table of zones by phase; it is on the official site.

What to do before you fly

    1. Visa: check the visa-free checker. If you need an M visa, start with the invitation letter guide.
    2. Badge: pre-register for the free badge. Steps are in registration and badge.
    3. Hotel: book early; prices rise sharply, according to traveller reports. See where to stay.
    4. Phone: set up payment and a data connection before you arrive. Our money and internet guides cover both. If you also have meetings in the city, the Guangzhou business trip guide puts visas, transport and payments in one place.

How to get there and around

The complex is on Metro Line 8, and Pazhou Station is also on Line 11. Which exit you use depends on the hall; the metro guide has the station and exit list. Inside, travellers report buying or renting electric suitcases to cover the distance. We could not find an official price for these. The complex also hosts Auto Guangzhou from November 27 to December 6, 2026, and you reach it the same way.

Services the organiser and airport promote

    • Airport: For the 139th session, Newsgd reported one-stop service centres at Baiyun Airport in the international arrival areas of Terminals 2 and 3, open 24 hours, with SIM card activation, transport booking and translation devices covering more than 140 languages.

    Common first-timer mistakes

    • Going to a phase that does not show your products.
    • Collecting the badge on the opening morning and queueing.
    • Booking a hotel late.
    • Trying to see every hall in one day.

    Before you leave the fair

Plan how you will get back before the end of the day. Metro Line 8 is the main link. For taxis, show the destination in Chinese with the Show your driver tool.

With a free evening, see one day in Guangzhou for the river and the night cruise.

Traps and how to avoid them

    • Assuming a company you know will be there

A buyer asked on Reddit in April 2026 whether the fair is worth it because companies they had contacted online were not attending. Exhibitors change by phase, so check the official exhibitor list for your phase before you decide.

    • Attending the wrong phase

Products rotate between phases. Look up your product in the organiser's zone table and attend that phase only.

    • Leaving badge collection until the opening morning

A traveller reported waiting about 1.5 hours for a badge on the opening day in October 2025. Collect it at the airport, South Station or your hotel if offered.

    • Planning to cover everything

Travellers say even five days is not enough if you do not know what you are looking for. Make a short list of product zones first.
