Guangzhou at Night: River Views, Bars and Night Food
Last checked October 19, 2026 against official sources. How we check
Quick answer
The easiest Guangzhou evening is a river view: Canton Tower is open until 22:30, and Pearl River cruises run in the evening; hours differ by pier. Bars cluster in Zhujiang New Town and along the river, most closing between 01:00 and 03:00 per guides. Last trains differ by line, so check the official metro app.

What is the easiest evening in Guangzhou?
A river evening needs little planning. Canton Tower is open until 22:30 (official page) and the Pearl River cruises run in the evening, so you can combine them. See the Canton Tower guide and the Pearl River night cruise guide. Wikipedia says the tower is lit from within by individually controlled LED fixtures, so it changes colour after dark.

| Area | What it offers | Source and caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Zhujiang New Town (珠江新城) | Upscale bars, rooftop lounges, hotel sky bars; peak from about 21:00 | Travel guides, not official |
| Party Pier (琶醍) | Riverside bars, restaurants and live music in a former brewery | Guides disagree on which bank it is on; check a map |
| Haixinsha (海心沙) | Riverside island opposite Zhujiang New Town; Wikipedia says the 2010 Asian Games opening ceremony was held there | Reach it by the APM Haixinsha station (official Red Boat page) |
| Beijing Road and Shangxiajiu | Pedestrian streets, shops and snacks in the evening | One guide: shops close by 22:00, street food to about 23:00 |
| Night food streets | Late noodle, congee and dessert shops | See the food guide |
For the bars in these areas, with prices and opening hours, see the bars and craft beer guide.
Wikivoyage’s Tianhe page (a dated listing) names Hooley’s Irish Pub near Liede station, Line 5, open to 02:00 Sunday to Thursday and 04:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, and Tavern Sports Bar near the Opera House APM station, open to 02:00. Check both before you go, as listings age.
Most bars close between 01:00 and 03:00, and big clubs can run until 04:00 or 05:00 on Friday and Saturday, according to one guide.
How do the river options compare?
| Option | Details | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Tower deck | Open 09:30–22:30; resellers say last entry 22:00; deck prices about ¥150 and ¥228 (reseller) | Official hours, Trip.com |

| Wider cruise price range | Basic about ¥88–110, open deck ¥150–220, buffet boats ¥250–398; passport needed to board | Cities Insider, February 2026 (secondary) |
| Red Boat (珠江红船) | A 52 m by 15 m theatre boat from the Haixinsha east pier | Canton Tower official page |
| Promenade walk | Free | Any riverside stretch |
Piers differ. Tower, Haixinsha, Dashatou and Tianzi are separate piers, so check the pier name on the ticket before you travel.
Photo: 钉钉 · CC BY-SA 4.0 DetailsWhat can you do in the evening without drinking?
Plenty. Wikivoyage’s Tianhe page (dated) lists the Guangzhou Library as free and open 09:00–21:00 (some sections close at 17:30, and it is closed Wednesdays), beside the Opera House in Zhujiang New Town. The Grandview Museum of Natural Science in Tianhe is listed as open to 20:00 on weekdays and 22:00 at weekends, at ¥88 for adults. Malls in Tianhe also stay open into the evening, with Parc Central and OneLink Walk both listed as 10:00–22:00. Confirm each, since the listings are old. Families can pair the river with an early dinner and a cruise, and the open-air promenade needs no ticket.
What about street food and walking?
Beijing Road and the Yuexiu area have neon-lit pedestrian streets and snacks. See the Beijing Road guide. A riverside promenade walk costs nothing.

The last train depends on the line and the direction, so check the official Guangzhou Metro app or its online line query for your station.
After the last train, book a ride. Set up Didi before you go out; see the Didi guide and the taxi guide. Pick up at a marked place, check the plate against the app, and pay in the app, not in cash. Keep your hotel’s Chinese name and address ready; the driver cards help. The metro guide covers gates and payment.
What are the safety tips?
Our safety guide covers the city overall. For nights out:
- Choose venues yourself from a map app. Say no to unsolicited invitations from strangers, especially anyone who approaches you in the street and offers to show you a bar.
- Check drink prices on the menu before ordering, and ask for the bill before you order more.
- Pay in the app or at the till, not to a stranger. Our scams guide covers deposit and tout scams, and says never to pay a deposit to someone who approached you first.
- Keep your phone and passport in a zipped pocket in crowds.
- Do not leave a drink unattended.
The last two points are standard travel advice, not claims from a source on this page.
How should you plan the evening?
A simple order, as a suggestion: eat early using the dim sum guide or food guide for ideas, take the cruise or tower around dusk, then walk Beijing Road for snacks before the last metro. Keep to one area, because sights are spread across districts. See things to do in Guangzhou for options by area.
Traps and how to avoid them
- Missing the last metro
Last trains differ by line and direction. Check your line in the official Guangzhou Metro app, or book a ride with Didi.
- Following a stranger to a bar
Say no to unsolicited invitations from strangers. Choose venues yourself from a map app and check prices before you order.
- Booking a cruise pier by name only
Tower, Haixinsha, Dashatou and Tianzi are different piers. Check the pier before you travel.
